KAMLOOPS — The back flipping Kamloops pipeliner who made it to the top twenty on the most recent season of American Idol put on a free concert at Aberdeen Mall Friday (July 15).

Around 300 fans turned out to watch Cameron Whitcomb perform a mix of covers, originals and his signature backflips.

Since leaving American Idol, Whitcomb has been working to establish his musical career.

“For a couple weeks, it was such a high and then it was like, holy, what now?” said Whitcomb.

“I was kinda just laying on the couch, like mortified almost, but now I’m starting to manage myself and reaching out and trying to find shows.”

He says he learned a lot about performing during his time on American Idol.

“After the show, I got home with all this knowledge … First thing on the agenda was to learn how to play guitar. So I kinda know how to play guitar now.”

“I can kinda, you know, get through a song,” he laughed.

He started writing original songs, performing three of them at the free show.

“My brother helped me write one of them. And then I wanted to make, like, a campfire tune, so it’s like a pop campfire tune, and then the last one I wrote about my motorcycles,” he said.

Those looking to catch his next show can follow his Instagram here.

“I’m learning lots, and having a good time doing it, and loving every minute of it.”
