Burn trial taking place in Lac Du Bois Grasslands Protected Area
KAMLOOPS — Kamloops and area residents may notice smoke from the Lac Du Bois Grasslands Protected Area this week.
In a social media post Wednesday (July 13) morning, the B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) says burn trials will take place in the area from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday (July 14).
BCWS says the trials, if conditions are suitable, will begin with a small fire. While burning, BCWS will take measurements on the flame’s height, rate of speed, wind speed, direction and humidity conditions. BCWS states the measurements are put into a modelling program to see how a real wildfire may act in similar conditions.
Anyone who believes they’re seeing smoke from a wildfire that is not related to the burn trial is asked to call 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on a cell phone.
