Shuswap Lake steady but remains on flood watch

SALMON ARM, B.C. — While the levels of local lakes and rivers have begun to stabilize, a flood watch for Shuswap Lake is being maintained by the B.C. River Forecast Centre.

In a news release by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD), it’s due to continued potential for heavy rainfall in the coming days.

However, the CSRD notes snowmelt risks appear to be subsiding, as the snowpack has diminished. The CSRD states the weather over the next few days will be critical in seeing whether lake levels will rise further or start to decline.

The Shuswap Emergency Program reminds residents in flood-prone areas to be aware of the weather patterns, as any rain could increase river flows and push lake levels higher.
