KAMLOOPS — A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the Cariboo, 100 Mile, North Thompson, and Shuswap regions.

In an alert at around 5 a.m. Tuesday (June 28), Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that can produce heavy rain, along with the possibility of hail and strong wind gusts. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable to develop thunderstorms that can produce large hail, damaging winds, or torrential rainfall.

Environment Canada warns that heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Residents are encouraged to go indoors if they hear the sound of thunder.
