One dead after motorcycle collides with SUV on Highway 5A outside of Merritt

KAMLOOPS — BC Highway Patrol confirms one man is dead following a two-vehicle collision on Highway 5A near Quilchena Ranch outside of Merritt late Saturday (June 25) afternoon.
In an email to CFJC Today, RCMP Cpl. Mike Halskov says a man driving a motorcycle collided with the side of an SUV and died on scene, while the woman travelling as a passenger on the motorcycle was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Police say the man and woman are from the Lower Mainland. Police responded at around 5:35 p.m.
Highway Patrol says the SUV pulled to the side of the highway, stopped briefly, and made a U-Turn, but failed to see the oncoming motorcycle. The driver of the SUV – a woman from Kamloops – was not injured.
Halskov says Highway Patrol does not consider speed and impairment to be contributing factors in the crash at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
