TRU opens new centre supporting women in trades

KAMLOOPS — A new resource centre that is aimed at helping women enter the trades was unveiled at Thompson Rivers University Monday (June 13).

The New Gold Women in Trades and Technology Resource Centre has a flexible teaching space, a private meeting room and serves as a communal gathering space for students and staff.

New Gold had announced in December a $150,000 donation to TRU to support women taking courses in trades.

“Our partnership with TRU and the donation to the TRU Women in Trades Training program are aligned with our vision to strengthen our team with a diverse, inclusive and empowered workforce,” said John Ritter, general manager at New Gold’s New Afton Mine.
