Nicola Valley Hospital in Merritt evacuated due to gas leak

MERRITT — UPDATE: FortisBC has determined there are no gas readings at the hospital, and the odour is not natural gas related.

EARLIER: The Interior Health Authority says the hospital in Merritt has been evacuated due to a gas leak today (June 17).

In a tweet, Interior Health says the Nicola Valley Hospital is currently closed until further notice. Patients, and staff have been evacuated safely due to the gas leak.

People who require emergency medical care in the Merritt area are being told to call 9-1-1, or head to the emergency department at Royal Inland Hospital or Kelowna General Hospital.
