KAMLOOPS — Western Canada Theatre (WCT) is looking for a new managing director.

In a news release, the Kamloops-based theatre company says Evan Klassen has announced his resignation after four years at the helm. Klassen will be moving on to the Grand Theatre in London, Ontario, as its new executive director.

WCT Board Chair Beverley DeSantis lauded Klassen for making a “tremendous contribution” during his tenure.

“During Evan’s time with us, the organization has seen greater financial stability, standardized operating procedures, and enriched internal programs,” said DeSantis. “Evan has been a confident leader as we dealt with structural issues at Sagebrush and the devastating effects of COVID on the theatre sector.”

WCT says Klassen’s achievements include delivering four consecutive budget surpluses, eliminating the organization’s accumulated deficit, building financial reserves and growing the annual operating budget to $3.1 million.

“I’m going to miss Western Canada Theatre and the Kamloops community dearly. The memories built over the past four years at WCT will be treasured for years to come,” said Klassen.

DeSantis notes the board has formed a hiring committee and will launch the search for Klassen’s successor in the coming weeks.
