Smash Mouth is back with a new vocalist, new single, and a new video.
Now fronted by Zach Goode, they’ve released a cover of Rick Astley’s 1987 hit, “Never Gonna Give You Up.”
Goode, an actor and songwriter, joined just in time for one of the band’s largest-ever gigs. Last month, they played to 50,000 people in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Founding vocalist Steve Harwell retired last year due to health problems. In 2013, he was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, heart failure and Wernicke encephalopathy.
Smash Mouth kicks off a summer tour on July 3 in Mason, Ohio.
SIDE NOTES
- “All Star,” one of their biggest hits was released in 1999.
- Quote: De Lisle says he knew that Smash Mouth’s original singer had long considered retirement — in fact, since a 2013 diagnosis of cardiomyopathy, heart failure and Wernicke encephalopathy. “Whatever he had to do, his health was the most important thing,” says De Lisle. “Steve retired. We moved on. It was sad after so many years, but we did see it coming.”
