One person killed in Highway 5 collision north of Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE (8:40 a.m.): One person died in a head-on collision between a semi-truck and a pickup truck Wednesday night (June 15) along Highway 5 south of Little Fort.

RCMP say the driver of the pickup suffered injuries however the passenger in the vehicle did not survive.

B.C. Emergency Health Services says four units were dispatched to the scene and transported one person to hospital.

Mounties closed the highway in both directions overnight to conduct an investigation. The road is expected to reopen by 10:00 a.m. Thursday.

The crash occurred in the 8000-block of Darfield around 8:20 p.m.

RCMP says the cause of the collision is not known at this point.

KAMLOOPS – A major highway north of Kamloops was closed overnight. A DriveBC tweet reported the closure of Highway 5 Wednesday evening (Jun. 15).

The message in the tweet identified a vehicle incident as the reason behind the closure. RCMP have released few details at this point but have confirmed a collision took place.

B.C. Emergency Health Services says four units and a supervisor responded to the scene at approximately 8:09 p.m. The crews transported one person to hospital by ambulance.

There is no word on other injuries.

The incident occurred between Allen-Meeker Road and Thuya Creek Road, about 10 km to 15 km south of Little Fort.

DriveBC is estimating the highway will reopen at 10 a.m.
