KAMLOOPS — Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc and the City of Kamloops have been recognized with a B.C. Reconciliation Award for their efforts to foster a collaborative relationship.

Award recipients were announced Tuesday (June 14) by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of B.C. and the B.C. Achievement Foundation. Recipients are selected by a committee that includes Indigenous elders and First Nations leaders. A formal ceremony to present the award is planned for the fall.

“The relationship we have built with the City of Kamloops is fostering meaningful connections and dialogue leading to initiatives that have had a great benefit to both organizations,” said TteS Kúkpi7 Rosanne Casimir in a news release. “We are honoured to be recognized for charting this path together and hope to be an inspiration to other communities with similar potential for collaboration.”

Just last month, Casimir and Kamloops Mayor Ken Christian accepted another national award from the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators for their work to build relationships.
