Flood watch issued for Shuswap region; South Thompson remains at high streamflow
KAMLOOPS — The province has upgraded rivers and tributaries in the Shuswap region to a flood watch stage, but is refraining from doing the same for the South Thompson River.
In a bulletin issued Monday morning (June 13), the B.C. River Forecast Centre (BCRFC) says a flood watch is now in place for South Thompson tributaries including Seymour River, Eagle River, Adams River and Shuswap River. The larger South Thompson itself remains at a high streamflow advisory.
The BCRFC says stream levels in the region have risen thanks to recent snowmelt.
With Environment Canada issuing a special weather statement for the region predicting prolonged rainfall Monday to Tuesday, river levels are expected to rise further. The BCRFC says the South Thompson should see “moderate rises” through the rest of the week.
