Nicola River water level set to increase
MERRITT, B.C. — The water level of the Nicola River is scheduled to rise as the Nicola Dam operator has announced plans to increase the water flow out of Nicola Lake.
The Nicola Dam operator says this will lead to an increase in the water level of the Nicola River.
“Around 48 cubic metres of water per second (m^3/s) will be flowing through the Nicola River in Merritt,” the City of Merritt says. “Compared to recent freshet flows, this is more water in the Nicola than we saw in 2021, but still below the approximately 57 m^3/s that we saw in 2020.”
According to the City, the wastewater treatment plant is starting to prepare for the increased flows.
