SICAMOUS, B.C. — The District of Sicamous issued an evacuation alert for the Sicamous Creek Mobile Home Park Friday (June 3) morning.

In an alert posted by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD), all residences No. 1 through 27 – 5 Highway 97A are under alert due to the threat of a landslide near Wiseman Creek that can cause danger to life, health, or property. The threat is due to forecast rainfall.

(Columbia Shuswap Regional District).

An evacuation alert is meant to give residents time to be ready for a possible evacuation. The CSRD says residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to evacuation although they may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.

Residents are recommended to:

  • locate their grab-and-go bags for them and their family
  • gather essential items such as medications, eyeglasses, valuable papers, immediate care needs for dependents. Replenish any items that have expired or need replacement, ensure them and their family members have enough clothing and incidentals for a 72-hour period and have these items readily available for quick departure
  • see preparedbc.ca for details
  • contact family members, advise them of the situation and determine a meeting location outside of the evacuation area where they can safely reconnect should the area be evacuated
  • arrange to stay with family or friends, if possible
  • take care of their pets or any other animals by moving them to a safe location
  • arrange transportation for all household members.
  • prepare to move any disabled persons and/or children.
  • fill the gas tanks of personal vehicles.

The CSRD asks the public to stay out of the Sicamous Creek Mobile Home Park area until the evacuation alert is rescinded.

Previously, the District of Sicamous issued an evacuation alert for the Sicamous Creek Mobile Home Park due to the threat of a landslide near Wiseman Creek in early May.

The CSRD directors did not support a proposal to conduct salvage logging in the Sicamous and Wiseman Creek watersheds due to the high risk of landslides following the Two Mile wildfire near Sicamous in summer 2021. The Sicamous Creek Mobile Home Park is located at the base of Wiseman Creek.
