KAMLOOPS — Kamloops local and Blazers co-captain Logan Stankoven was named Western Hockey League (WHL) Player of the Year.

Stankoven received the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy after finishing third in scoring with 104 points (45 goals and 59 assists) in 59 games during the 2021-22 WHL regular season. Stankoven, however, had a 1.76 points-per-game, the highest during the regular season. He is the first Blazer to win WHL Player of the Year since Jarome Iginla in 1996.

Additionally, Stankoven won the Brad Hornung Memorial Trophy as the most sportsmanlike player in the 2021-22 WHL season.

Elsewhere, Blazers goaltender Dylan Garand received the Del Wilson Memorial Trophy as WHL Goaltender of the Year. Garand’s 0.925 save percentage was the second highest during the regular season, and his 2.16 goals against average was second lowest. Garand finished tied for first in wins with 34 – going 34-9-1. He also finished the season with four shutouts.

Finally, Blazers forward Connor Levis received the Daryl K. (Doc) Seaman Memorial Trophy as Scholastic Player of the Year for 2021-22.

Stankoven and Levis are eligible to return to the Blazers for the 2022-23 WHL season ahead of Kamloops hosting the 2023 Memorial Cup. Garand is also eligible to return, although it’s unlikely as he’s eligible to play professional hockey. Garand signed his NHL Entry Level contract with the New York Rangers in December 2021.
