Kruger completes acquisition of Kamloops pulp, says all jobs will be maintained

KAMLOOPS — Montreal-based Kruger has announced it has completed the acquisition of the Kamloops pulp mill from Domtar.

In a news release issued Wednesday (June 1), Kruger stated the mill will continue to operate as usual and maintain its 320 jobs. Kruger also said the mill will honour all existing volume commitments and agreements with customers and suppliers.

“The Company also recognizes the important role that the Kamloops Mill plays in the Thompson/Okanagan region and will work closely with local sawmills and wood fibre suppliers to strengthen relationships with these key partners,” Kruger states.

Domtar was taken over by South Carolina-based Paper Excellence in 2021, with the Canadian Competition Bureau approving the sale in November. As a condition of the sale, Paper Excellence was forced to sell the Kamloops mill for competitive reasons.
