OTTAWA — Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo MP Frank Caputo has made his choice in his party’s leadership race.

In a social media post, Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) leadership candidate Jean Charest says Caputo has endorsed him. The post includes a quote from Caputo: “In an increasingly polarized world, we need leadership that can bring all Canadians together with a strong vision for our country’s long-term prosperity. I believe that Jean Charest is the right choice to lead our party and country into a better future.”

Caputo is a first-term MP, elected to succeed Cathy McLeod in 2021. Shortly after the September, 2021 federal election, CPC leader Erin O’Toole stepped down, triggering the leadership contest.

Charest served as leader of the Progressive Conservative Party from 1993 to 1998, then the Liberal premier of Quebec from 2003 to 2012.
