Blazers fall to Thunderbirds in overtime, Western Conference Final now tied 2-2

May 26, 2022 | 6:08 AM

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers played overtime hockey for the first time in the 2022 Western Hockey League (WHL) playoffs but were unable to secure the win in the United States.

In game four of the WHL Western Conference Final against the Seattle Thunderbirds, the Blazers struck first with a power play goal in the final minute of the first period. However, the Thunderbirds would answer with a power play tally of their own early in the second to tie it.

Deadlocked at 1-1 for most of the game, in part to stellar goaltending from the Blazers’ Dylan Garand and the Thunderbirds’ Thomas Milic, Seattle would strike again after 50 minutes of play. Nico Myatovic finished a pass from between the hashmarks to give the Thunderbirds a 2-1 overtime win.

The best-of-seven series is now tied 2-2. Game five of the WHL Western Conference Final is scheduled for Friday (May 27) at Sandman Centre. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
