Ammonia leak closes roads in Mount Paul Industrial Park

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE: This story has been updated.

UPDATE: Sources at Royal Inland Hospital indicate one person has died due to the leak. Authorities have not confirmed the death.

A ‘Code Orange’ was called this morning to prepare staff to accept mass casualties. The ‘Code Orange’ was called off before noon.

EARLIER: Kamloops residents are asked to avoid the Mount Paul Industrial Park area due to an ammonia leak at 790 Sarcee Street East.

In a notice on social media Thursday (May 26) morning, the City of Kamloops says Kamloops Fire Rescue’s hazardous materials team is en route and RCMP are assisting with road closures. The road is closed on Carrier Street and Sarcee Street East and West.

It’s not known if anyone was injured.
