TNRD director O’Reilly proposes exploring new district boundaries

KAMLOOPS — A Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) director wants the district to explore changing its boundaries — or even splitting in two.

Mike O’Reilly, a Kamloops city councillor, presented a notice of motion at the TNRD Board of Directors meeting Thursday (May 19), calling on the board to form an exploratory working group.

O’Reilly says the TNRD hasn’t reviewed its boundaries since its inception in 1967 despite being the largest regional district by board members and land size in the province outside of the Lower Mainland.

He proposes the working group be made up of up to 12 directors and bring recommendations forward within one year.
