Blazers trade up in WHL Prospects Draft, select 12 players
KAMLOOPS — Draft day began with a trade for the Kamloops Blazers.
During the Western Hockey League (WHL) Prospects Draft on Thursday (May 19), the Blazers moved up six spots in the draft by trading the 19th overall pick, the 66th overall pick (third round), and 129th overall pick (sixth round) to the Saskatoon Blades for the 13th overall pick.
With the 13th pick, the Blazers selected Nathan Behm – a six-foot 173 lbs forward out of Calgary. Behm scored 28 goals and 29 assists in 29 regular season U-15 games with Edge School, along with six goals and five assists in four playoff games. At the U-16 level with Edge School, Behm scored two goals in two regular season games and two goals and three assists in five playoff games.
“We see him as one of the most skilled players in the draft, he is a dynamic offensive player. A dual threat with the puck. He loves the game and wants to be a player. We look forward to seeing him in a Blazer jersey,” Robbie Sandland, Blazers director of player personnel says.
