MERRITT, B.C. — Snowy conditions continue on the Coquihalla Highway in the month of May.

Until Thursday (May 19) morning, Environment Canada says drivers should expect periods of snow over higher elevation passes on the stretch of Highway 5 between Hope and Merritt.

In a special weather statement Wednesday (May 18) morning, the weather service agency says around five to 10 centimetres of snow is expected with strong southwesterly winds due to an unseasonable low-pressure system and cool and unstable airmass.

According to Environment Canada, precipitation on the stretch of the Coquihalla Highway has started with wet snow, but steady snow will start Wednesday afternoon as temperatures cool late.
