KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP have identified the person whose bone was discovered near Kamloops Airport earlier this spring.

In a news release, detachment spokesperson Cst. Crystal Evelyn says DNA analysis has confirmed the bone found March 26 belongs to David Bosanac, a local man who was reported missing eight days earlier. Bosanac is now confirmed to be dead.

Evelyn says RCMP now want to know more about the 22-year-old Bosanac’s movements before his death.

Bosanac was reported missing on March 18 after not being heard from since February 25.

After the bone was found on the bank of the Thompson River on March 26, RCMP employed Police Dog Services Unit, Search and Rescue, and the RCMP Human Remains Detection dogs to search for more items of interest, finding nothing of significance.

DNA analysis eventually led to an identification of Bosanac but RCMP are still trying to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.

While police are releasing his identity and photo to further their investigation, they have decided not to release which specific bone was found.

“At this time, the circumstances surrounding Mr. Bosanac’s death are still unknown and we’re hoping the public may have information that can help police better determine a timeline on his final days, providing some clues as to what happened,” said Evelyn.

Anyone who may be able to assist RCMP with further information into Bosanac’s disappearance and death is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 and refer to file number 2022-8707.
