May 14, 2022 | 10:18 AM

KAMLOOPS — The series is still alive for the Vancouver Giants as they beat the Kamloops Blazers 5-2 Friday (May 13).

In Game 5 of the Western Hockey League (WHL) second-round series, the Giants took over the third period to push the series to a Game 6.

Kamloops wasn’t able to come back after two quick goals were scored by Giants Ty Thorpe and Zack Ostapchuk less than a minute apart to start the final period.

Ostapchuk proved to be a star Friday night with two goals and two assists adding to his total of 23 points in the 2022 WHL Playoffs.

Blazers goalie Dylan Garand only saw 24 shots from the Giants in the loss as Kamloops was the aggressor with 37 shots on net.

Two empty-net goals and multiple clutch saves by Giants goalie Jesper Vikman were the difference makers on the night sending the series back to Langley.

The Blazers still lead the series 3-2 and are one win away from punching their ticket to the WHL Western Conference Finals.

With momentum on Vancouver’s side heading home, the Giants-Blazers series continues Sunday (May 15) in Langley. Puck drop is at 4 p.m.
