TRU to offer Master of Arts in Human Rights and Social Justice
KAMLOOPS — Thompson Rivers University has received approval to offer a new Master of Arts program focusing on social issues.
The Master of Arts in Human Rights and Social Justice program will be offered to up to 30 students annually under the Faculty of Arts starting in September, 2022.
In a news release, TRU says the program will last 16 months and will include four course that incorporate “Indigenous ways of knowing and a requirement to do hands-on field study work.” The school says the program will allow students to study homelessness, truth and reconciliation, poverty, climate change, conflict resolution and war.
“This is the only program of this type in Western Canada that has this kind of blending of human rights and social justice, so students come out with a well-rounded master’s degree,” said Dean of Arts Rick McCutcheon.
