QUESNEL, B.C. – The City of Quesnel has suffered many economic blows over the years, however, there’s been a recent turnaround in real estate.

The community of 10,000 people has become a destination for those wanting to leave the big city and make it their home.

William Lacy is a longtime realtor in Quesnel and says he and his peers have seen average house prices creeping to levels never seen before.

Mayor Bob Simpson says it’s meant the city has gone from managing economic diversification to managing its growing population.

He adds there’s a potential for thousands of new jobs in the region over the next three to five years.

“We have never been seen as a growth community, and our development service department never had to manage growth and process permits. Developers don’t know what to do when they come to a community like ours. We are looking at all of our lands, making sure it is zoned properly.” Bob Simpson

The average selling price for a single-family detached home is around $380,000, increasing from approximately $267 thousand over the last two years.
