QUESNEL, B.C. — Between 2020 and 2021, there were ten major landslides and washouts in the Cariboo region. In response, the province formed a Cariboo Road Recovery Projects team to deliver solutions for those impacted by the landslides.

There is a 300-metre section of Highway 97 just 18 kilometres north of Quesnel where the ground has shifted. On this portion of the road, the highway speed has been reduced to 50 kilometres per hour for safety.

There are ten road recovery projects. Nine are in the Quesnel area, and the other is near Williams Lake. According to Greg Bruce, director of the Cariboo Roads Recovery Program, many of the landslides are linked to the changing climate.

Over the past few months, the province has met and communicated with residents about immediate needs.
