Assault in McArthur Island Park leads to charges

KAMLOOPS — A man is facing charges after a reported assault in McArthur Island Park over the weekend.

RCMP say the incident happened on Sunday (May 8) at about 11:20 a.m. Police were told a man on a bike had assaulted a woman. When a bystander on scene tried to step in, the suspect allegedly threatened him with a knife.

Officers arrived and located the suspect, who fled into the Thompson River for a short time before surrendering to police.

The suspect, a man in his 20s, is facing charges including assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, obstructing a peace officer, uttering threats and failure to comply with a release order. His next court appearance is set for May 19.
