KAMLOOPS — Environment Canada issued two special weather statements for travellers in the Nicola, Shuswap, and Columbia regions early Monday (May 9) morning.

Drivers on the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt can expect potential flurries Monday. Environment Canada says snow levels will continue to hover near the Coquihalla Summit. While light flurries are generally expected along the sections, the weather agency says bouts of heavier flurries are possible but will be brief and localized.

Further east, Environment Canada says the Trans Canada Highway from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass will see light flurries along the highest elevation sections beginning Monday afternoon and continuing into Tuesday. Due to cool and unsettled conditions during the period, Environment Canada says snow levels will stay near the higher elevation sections. Bouts of heavier flurries is also possible but will be brief and localized.

Drivers are asked to prepare for changing driving conditions if snow increases quickly on the roads. Environment Canada says weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
