Weapons call leads to brief hold-and-secure at Valleyview school

KAMLOOPS — A weapons complaint led one Valleyview school to declare a brief hold-and-secure protocol Friday morning (May 6).

RCMP say Mounties responded to the complaint just before noon Friday, with Police Dog Services responding as well.

Because of the nature of the incident and the proximity to nearby schools, the school was placed on hold-and-secure. The only two public schools operating in Valleyview are Marion Schilling Elementary and Valleyview Secondary. An education official has confirmed Marion Schilling Elementary was not affected.

RCMP say the suspect was located and arrested, and there was no direct threat to either school.
