SICAMOUS, B.C. — An evacuation alert remains in effect for 27 units in the Sicamous Creek Mobile Home Park.

In an update Friday (May 6), the Columbia Shuswap Regional District says conditions in the Wiseman Creek drainage improved overnight as precipitation levels were reduced. However, while rainfall amounts were not significant to trigger a landslide, the threat remains.

The alert was issued Thursday (May 5) for residences No. 1 to 27 Highway 97A as a threat of a landslide near Wiseman Creek may pose danger to the residents’ lives, health and property.

Previously, the CSRD directors did not support a proposal to conduct salvage logging in the Sicamous and Wiseman Creek watersheds due to the high risk of landslides following the Two Mile wildfire near Sicamous in summer, 2021. The Sicamous Creek Mobile Home Park is located at the base of Wiseman Creek.
