KAMLOOPS — Former Blazers goaltender Connor Ingram made his first Stanley Cup Playoff start Thursday night in Colorado, and despite losing in overtime, he stood on his head to keep Nashville in the game with a 49-save performance.

Ingram got the start in favour of David Rittich — who was pulled in Game 1 and replaced by Ingram — and single-handedly kept Nashville in the game with a handful of massive saves.

He got the Predators to overtime, but unfortunately on the 51st Colorado shot, Cale Makar beat Ingram to give the Avalanche a 2-0 series lead.

“I don’t think that matters if it’s the first shot or 45th shot,” said Ingram in the post-game interview. “[Makar] made a nice play. He changed the angle before he let it go. A nice shot by him. I think that’s part of maturing with age, just being able to move on and kind of reset and go from there.”

Ingram said in the post-game interviews that playing in front of a hostile crowd in Colorado in the Stanley Cup Playoffs is a dream come true.

“Next to the World Juniors in Canada, the Stanley Cup Playoffs is as big as it gets. This is where you want to play, this is what you dream about as a kid,” said Ingram. “So to get the chance to do it and play in front of a crowd like that, it’s what you dream about, so it’s a lot of fun. It’s a good experience.”

However, he said as great as his individual performance was on Thursday night, the Game 2 loss is what really matters.

“I don’t think it matters individually,” he said. “It’s a playoff series. If you don’t come out with wins, it doesn’t really add up to much. It’s the beauty of playoffs. Game 1 was 7-2, today it’s 2-1, Saturday’s will be a brand-new day again. We’ll pack this one away.”
