Weekend for Kamloops RCMP includes assault case, drug and weapon seizures

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP responded to approximately 412 calls for service from midnight Friday (April 29) to 9:00 a.m. on Monday (May 2). Below are some highlights from those reports.

Downtown assault

A man was arrested and charged, and a woman was taken to hospital, following a reported assault with a weapon in downtown late Saturday night.

RCMP received a request to assist ambulance with a suspicious report involving a stab wound on the 500-block of Battle Street. A woman was found transported to hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

The man received a release order, conditions and a new court date.

Firearms seized in Westsyde

A man was arrested and charged after a report involving an assault, threats and firearms led to a heavy police presence in Westsyde Saturday evening.

RCMP say they surrounded a residence on Westsyde Road and convinced the man to come outside. Police say officers located and seized several firearms, including a sawed-off shotgun.

The man received a release order and new court appearance date.

Idling vehicle with drugs on the North Shore

A loaded gun, ammo, brass knuckles, cash and baggies of illegal drugs were seized by police investigating a suspicious vehicle report on the North Shore early Sunday morning.

Officers attended the area of Cherry Avenue and Wood Street, where a vehicle was reported idling for more than an hour.

Police arrested a man inside the vehicle, who was believed to be under the influence of drugs, for impaired and prohibited driving. He was released with a court date.
