100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — A woman was arrested after a white motorhome was found fully engulfed in flames near the South Cariboo Visitor Centre in 100 Mile House Monday (May 2) evening.

100 Mile House RCMP say while officers were at the locations near Wrangler Way at Highway 97, they received another call about a woman attempting to light a fire behind the 100 Mile Library on Birch Avenue.

Police says officers attended and located a woman well known to them but was no evidence of another fire being started at the library. However, police say the woman did have visual evidence on her that she was involved in a fire.

The woman was linked to the van fire after RCMP say they gathered evidence from other witnesses at the scene, including photos taken of the female suspect at the scene. She was arrested and later released with numerous conditions. RCMP say the woman’s name cannot yet be released as no charges have been sworn against her by Crown counsel.

Police say the registered owner of the van, who is from the Anahim Lake area, had been living in the van for several months and it had held all his possessions. RCMP had Canadian Mental Health Association Outreach offer assistance to the man and got him a place to stay for the night. The van was seized for investigative purposes by an RCMP fire investigator, and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information or video of the reported van fire is asked to contact 100 Mile House RCMP at 250-395-2456 or BC Crime Stoppers.
