Billets needed as NorthPaws’ inaugural season approaches

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops NorthPaws are preparing to begin their inaugural season on May 31, when they welcome the Edmonton Riverhawks to Norbrock Stadium. While the excitement around the team is starting to build, the NorthPaws are still looking for billets to help house the ballplayers.

The team will be made up of college-level athletes, playing across the United States and Canada, with the kids arriving in Kamloops just before the start of the regular season next month.

Business Operations Manager Jamie Shinkewski explained their billet situation is not unique across the league.

“We are looking for some host families for all our players. They will be coming up for just a short stint, but really looking for some beds for them to stay in while they’re in Kamloops. Just asking the community to step forward, we know we have awesome people in the community and they’ve opened their doors before and no we’re hoping they’ll open their heart and homes to Northpaws players for the summer,” said Shinkewski.

With only a third of the squad currently set up with a billet, the NorthPaws are looking to find beds for approximately 25 more players as the season approaches. Those willing to step up will receive a grocery stipend and more.

“Some season tickets as well,” added Shinkewski. “We talk about in sports all the time and it’s the relationships you form and we certainly hope that some of these players coming up will be pros if not major leaguers down the road.”

Those interested in billeting players can learn more on the NorthPaws website.
