KAMLOOPS — Kamloops shot-putter Greg Stewart had a golden year in 2021. Now, he’s being awarded with the 2021 F.N.A. Rowell Trophy, given by Athletics Canada to the Field Event Athlete of the Year.

The 7-foot-2, 350-pound Stewart took home the gold medal in the F46 final at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. The golden moment was 20 years in the making, including a one-year delay to the Games due to the pandemic.

In a message on Twitter, the 35 year old thanked all his supports, including local coach Dylan Armstrong, who won the same award in 2011.

“Thank you to my coach, Dylan Armstrong, all the staff at [Athletics Canada], all my friends and family and loved ones, my partner. Thank you everyone for helping me get this far, helping fuel the fire to allow me to go and compete at my very best,” he said.
