KAMLOOPS — After a two-year hiatus, the City of Kamloops has brought back the Volunteer Appreciation BBQ to honour locals that lend a helping hand.

At the Sandman Centre plaza Friday (April 22), volunteers from different organizations around the city were able to soak up the sun and gather once again.

Mayor Ken Christian says many groups have been able to help those who need it most.

“It’s everything from people that do our speed watch programs, people that volunteer in our park engagement group, the different support groups that we have for the various departments in the city, and certainly a big crew from our emergency support services and of course you would remember last year that they volunteered about 25,000 hours on behalf of the citizens of Kamloops to support evacuees for both the forest fires and from the floods.”

Christian was able to grab some food and say thanks to all the community leaders who helped through the tough times that have passed.

“I am going to grab a burger and do some door prizes and just mix and mingle with those people that put a lot out in terms of their contribution to make Kamloops shine.”

National volunteer week kicks off Monday, April 24 as we recognize those who contribute to the community and beyond.
