TNRD libraries introduce new guitar borrowing program

KAMLOOPS — Locals can now jam out easier with the help of the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) library’s new guitar lending program.

Through the initiative, TNRD libraries will lend guitars to people at each of the library branches across the region to give them a chance at learning the instrument.

Using the free borrowing program, locals can borrow a guitar for up to six weeks. 20 guitars are up for grabs to borrow and participants can return their guitars at any one of the TNRD library branches in the area.

There are two types of Riversong guitars available to borrow, the Dreadnought and the Grand Auditorium.

Provided by Riversong Guitars, CEO Mike Miltimore says he wanted to lend a hand to people in the community looking to get into music.

“We wanted to make guitars really accessible. I believe that my guitar invention is good for pros but also as equally good for beginners,” says Miltimore, “So you have something that’s playing – if it plays good it sounds good you’re going to want to play more, you’re going to want to do more of it so the best way that we could think of to make guitars accessible to everybody throughout the TNRD is to partner with the library program where it’s a free of cost thing and anybody can get into playing a guitar.”

Miltimore explained the partnership arose after speaking with Chief Librarian Judy Moore on how they can assist the community. Moore says after throwing around ideas for two years, this project landed in their lap.

“What if the public library were to consider lending out guitars?” she says, “So, of course, COVID has gotten in the way of so many things but now we’re back, back in action and we thought it would be a wonderful lead to all of the summer programming that we’re going to be delivering.”
