REVELSTOKE, B.C. — Drivers are told to expect delays on the Trans Canada Highway east of Revelstoke Tuesday (April 19) morning.

After a brief closure that was reported shortly after 7:30 a.m., DriveBC says the stretch of Highway 1 is open to single-lane alternating traffic due to vehicle recovery at the Illecillewaet brake check about five kilometres west of West Boundary of Glacier National Park. The online service for provincial highways first reported of a vehicle incident in the Canyon Hot Springs area shortly before 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Environment Canada says an additional 10 centimetres of snow is possible from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass. Early Easter Monday, the weather service advised travellers of a weather system moving across B.C. that would give late-season snow to the stretch of Highway 1. As of Tuesday morning, Environment Canada says snow will taper off to a few flurries later in the evening.

Drivers are told to be prepared to adjust their driving with changing road conditions. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Drivers are asked to turn on their lights and maintain a safe following distance if their visibility is reduced. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
