WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — Wind gusts of 30-to-50 kilometres per hour are expected Monday (Apr. 18) across the Cariboo Fire Centre according to the BC Wildfire Centre (BCWC). In addition, sustained winds of 20 to 30 kilometres per hour will be felt across the region.
In the wake of the forecast, the BCWC is warning individuals conducting open burns to do so with caution. It says gusts can carry sparks and burning materials for great distances.
It says anyone who is burning will need to have quick access to fire suppression tools such as a charged water hose and shovels.
It urges all residents to report wildfires by calling 1-800-663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cell phone.
