Kamloops’ Matthew Ward named to National Team

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops native Matthew Ward has been named to Team Canada’s U18 National Team ahead of the World Championships.

Ward, the middle of three brothers, played his second full season with the WHL’s Swift Current Broncos. His younger brother Sam was just signed by the Broncos, while his older brother Ben just finished a four-year career with the BCHL’s Merritt Centennials.

In 64 games played this season, Ward scored 22 goals and collected 35 assists for 57 points.

The tournament is being held in Germany this year, with Canada opening up their gold medal defense versus the United States on Saturday, April 23 at 10:30 a.m. Pacific.
