VANDERHOOF — The Mayor and Council of the District of Vanderhoof will decide this week on if they’ll attend this year’s Union of BC Municipalities Convention.

During last year’s virtual convention, the District of Vanderhoof met with BC Hydro to discuss the revitalization of Highway 16.

They also met with the Ministries of Health, Municipal Affairs, Mental Health and Addictions, Public Safety, and Transport to discuss issues from RCMP staffing concerns to sidewalk safety.

Premier John Horgan also met with the group, discussing natural resources, agriculture and health care.

This year, a priority would be to discuss the crosswalk on Highway 16 and Pine Street, according to Tuesday’s (April 19) council agenda.

The UBCM Convention will take place in Whistler, B.C. from September 12 to 16, 2022. The cost for hotel rooms should all eight councillors attend would be $10,625.60. Though the district has not yet been told the cost of registration, the cost for each councillor last year was $475. If there is no increase in fees this year the total cost for all the councillors would be $3,800.

The total cost for all councillors to attend the UBCM Convention would be approximately $14,425.60, according to the agenda.
