KAMLOOPS — American Idol’s Top 24 show from Hawaii wrapped up on Monday night, and Kamloops singer Cameron Whitcomb got his turn on the stage.

Despite getting advice from pop singer Bebe Rhexa to use a mic stand to settle his nerves, Whitcomb was his usual energetic self.

He bounced around the stage while performing CCR’s “Bad Moon Rising” — his second CCR song of the competition.

The judges loved his energy. Lionel Richie noted if he can stretch that into a 90-minute show, he could have something special.

“All I’m going to say is, that was his first song. Imagine a whole show,” said Richie. “If I can get you to calm down and spread that over an hour and a half of actual show business, you’ve got something.”

He finished off with his signature backflip, and the judges have started to figure out the reason behind it.

“Now I know why you have to flip,” said Katy Perry after his performance. “Because if you don’t get a burst out energy out, Lionel and I think maybe you’ll just blow up.”

Whitcomb will now have to wait until Sunday’s show to find out if he’s cracked the Top 20.
