Outpatient addiction treatment coming to Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — A new outpatient addiction treatment service will run seven days a week in Kamloops, according to a press release issued Tuesday (April 12) by Interior Health (IH).

People with substance use challenges will be able to use outpatient withdrawal management services. IH is also introducing a new virtual addiction medicine clinic.

IH said that the outpatient model means a person doesn’t need to be admitted to a facility to receive withdrawal support and patients can receive care, including prescriptions, in their own home.

The new services are anticipated to start by summer 2022.

They said the outpatient model is especially helpful for people who may face barriers accessing bed-based withdrawal management.

“With new outpatient withdrawal management options across the Interior, more people will be able to access the help they need,” said Sheila Malcolmson, minister of Mental Health and Addictions.

Outpatient withdrawal management teams will also run seven days a week in Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton.
