KAMLOOPS — RCMP responded to about 419 calls for service in Kamloops over the weekend.

Here are some of the more notable reports:

Woman escapes mugging attempt

A woman was able to escape after an attempted mugging.

The woman was walking on Sixth Avenue near Victoria Street at 1:30 a.m. Saturday (Apr. 9) when a group of teens approached and allegedly tried to take her coat and purse.

The victim ran away and stayed on the phone with 9-1-1 dispatch until she made it home safely.

Anyone with information on the suspects is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 and refer to file number 2022-11459.

Valleyview car theft interrupted in progress

An auto theft suspect was arrested after being caught in the act.

It happened at 4:20 a.m. Saturday on the 1700-block of Knollwood Crescent in Valleyview.

Two people confronted and tried to stop a suspect who was attempting to steal a car. The suspect then allegedly rammed another vehicle, backed into a utility pole and nearly struck one of the intervening witnesses.

The man took off on foot but was corralled by one of the bystanders just as RCMP arrived. Officers then took him into custody.

RCMP say the suspect was on house arrest and probation at the time, and is still in custody with a new set of charges to contend with.

Fake gun outside North Shore detachment

Officers at the RCMP’s North Shore detachment didn’t have to go far to nab a suspect with a replica firearm.

On Friday afternoon at about 3:25 p.m., Mounties in the detachment’s parking lot noticed a man walking past with a suspected pistol in his hand.

The officers ordered the man to drop the gun, but he put it into his waistband, stating it was fake.

RCMP took him into custody before confirming the gun was, indeed, fake.

The man was lodged in cells until he could sober up while his fake pistol was seized for destruction.
