WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — Interior Health has issued a drug alert for the Williams Lake area.

The alert came into effect last Friday (Apr. 8) and will remain active until this Friday.

IH says a sample of a yellow, chalky substance tested in Williams Lake was found to contain benzodiazepines and “an extreme level of fentanyl” — as much as 25-to-30 per cent.

The drug carries a high risk of overdose and death. The alert notes people who use the substance may experience long periods of sleep and drowsiness.
