Trans Canada Highway east of Golden closing for a month after Easter
KAMLOOPS — Kamloops drivers planning to visit Banff or Calgary via the Trans Canada Highway between Easter and Victoria Day weekends will need to account for an extra 90 minutes on their trip.
In a news release issued Tuesday (April 5), B.C.’s Ministry of Transportation says Highway 1 between Golden, B.C. and Castle Junction, Alta. will be closed from noon on Tuesday, April 19, to noon on Friday, May 20. It’s due to construction on the highway through the Kicking Horse Canyon to make the 4.8-kilometre section of roadway into a four-lane standard route.
All through traffic on Highway 1 from Golden to Castle Junction will be routed via Highways 93S and 95. The province says this will add as much as 90 minutes of travel time.
“This closure will allow crews to proceed with work that cannot be carried out safely during shorter interruptions, such as construction on and adjacent to the existing highway, which includes the placement of heavy equipment on the roadway,” the ministry states.
