Teck donates $2.5 million towards RIH’s emergency department; using copper to reduce disease spread
KAMLOOPS — Teck Resources Limited (Teck) donated $2.5 million towards Royal Inland Hospital’s new emergency department.
In a news release Monday (April 4) morning, Teck and the RIH Foundation announced the new Teck Emergency Department will have antimicrobial copper surfaces and equipment to help protect patients and health care workers by reducing the spread of infectious disease. Teck says that copper has unique antimicrobial properties and is proven effective in eliminating up to 99.9 per cent of harmful bacteria within two hours of contact.
Teck states the newly renovated emergency department will offer expanded care and enhanced patient outcomes in Kamloops.
