MERRITT, B.C. — Merritt RCMP have created a safe exchange zone outside of their detachment.
In a news release Thursday (March 31), police say it’s to give Merritt residents a safe area to complete online transactions, as well as a location to transfer children between parents or guardians.
As part of the RCMP’s Recruit Field Training Program, new officers have to complete a project within the community they serve. Cst. Carly Gerein decided she wanted to create a safe exchange zone for Merritt residents. RCMP say she had the sign created locally and with the assistance from the City of Merritt’s public works department.
Merritt residents are encouraged to use the safe exchange zone between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.
