City of Kamloops to test out new rush hour traffic pattern near Overlanders Bridge

Mar 31, 2022 | 9:07 AM

KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops is introducing a pilot traffic pattern change in an effort to minimize rush hour backup heading onto the Overlanders Bridge.

Right now, traffic heading to the bridge from the Summit Connector alternates with westbound, right-lane traffic coming from Victoria Street West, controlled by a traffic signal.

The change will see the Summit Connector traffic able to flow freely onto the bridge, while the right lane traffic from Victoria Street West is closed off.

The new traffic flow will be in place 24-7 for the duration of the study.

The trial will begin on April 4 and last until April 22, after which the City’s transportation department will evaluate whether the change was effective.

Editors note: Please note that a previous version of this story stated the new traffic flow would only take place during peak traffic hours, and the City of Kamloops has since stated the temporary traffic flow will be in place 24/7 for the duration of the study.
